How did Tonawanda Dance Arts become TDA?

Miss Melanie, the owner and director of Tonawanda Dance Arts, began her dance journey at the young age of three. With four kids to raise and three girls that wanted to dance Miss Melanie found herself changing studios when she was 12 years old so her mom could help sew costumes to trade for some dance lessons.

That one decision started Miss Melanie on a journey that would lead her to be the owner of TDA. She met her best friend at her new dance studio, danced at her new studio throughout middle and high school and graduated to dance instructor after high school. Many years later, married with three young daughters, Miss Melanie found herself in a position to purchase the school she called home.

Previously located on Hinds Street in the City of Tonawanda, Tonawanda Dance Arts grew from two classrooms to three until they finally moved to their current location at 2311 Military Road in the Town of Tonawanda.

Our current facility boasts over 5,000 square feet of space with four fully equipped, air-conditioned studios that have sprung floors and a wireless sound system. All studios contain viewing windows and closed-circuit TVs so you may watch your child dance. We are a Tech-Enabled™ studio, with state of the art live streaming equipment.  All classes are live-streamed directly from our studio, while in-person classes are in session. This also gives parents (and even grandparents) the opportunity and convenience to live-stream their child's dance class and watch it from anywhere! We have plenty of seating in our lobby, a parent workstation, and our building is also fully ADA compliant and accessible.

Tonawanda Dance Arts is proud to be a More Than Just Great Dancing™ affiliated studio! MTJGD is a licensed affiliation of dance studios that subscribe to a high standard of dance instruction and management practices who are united in their belief that dance has the power to change lives. This dynamic worldwide network is transforming the dance industry by providing its affiliate studios with staff development, leadership training, quality programs, and curricula in order to develop conscientious children and young adults who are respectful, confident, and share their gifts and talents with the community. We have chosen to align ourselves with this organization because we believe in upholding certain standards while educating children and are committed to creating a positive, safe, encouraging, and welcoming dance studio for all!

TDA is also the first dance studio in the region to achieve Youth Protection Advocates in Dance™ certification. As the nation’s only dance certification program focusing on both safety and wellness for dance students, this certification marks Tonawanda Dance Arts’ commitment to keeping kids happy, healthy and safe in dance. To earn the designation, studios must complete training in CPR, First Aid, dance education and safety, injury prevention, emergency preparedness, abuse awareness and prevention, dancer wellness and development, social media safety, nutrition and disordered eating, bullying, and conflict resolution. Only studios that complete training, as well as background check all employees, are eligible for certification. Tonawanda Dance Arts is a Safer Studio™ that prioritizes a hierarchy of safety and wellness measures.

Our staff consists of friendly, caring, experienced and professional instructors who strive to make your child’s time at our dance studio an enjoyable and stress-free one. They are dedicated to ensuring that your child receives the proper training needed for them to reach their full potential in a safe and positive environment. Our goal is to create happy and healthy dancers!
