Dance Etiquette

It is important to know the “dos and don’ts” of dance class! Know what to expect and be on your best behavior to get the most out of each lesson. Here are some tips to take into consideration!

  1. Dress for Success: Always come to class in the proper dance attire. Not only does it help you ‘feel the part’, it also helps your teacher to see correct alignment and form. Hair should be neatly pulled out of your face and no jewelry should be worn. Lastly, make sure you have the correct shoes!

  2. Be quiet and listen: This is one of the most important tips! Just like in school, it is rude to speak when your teacher is talking. Be sure to raise your hand if you have a question. As we all know, dance is fun! But remember, there is a time for fun and a time to learn.

  3. Apply Corrections: Teachers are there to help you become a better dancer! When they give you a tip or correction, try to make that correction as best as you can and as soon as you can. It may take some time, but the more you try to apply what the teacher is telling you, the better you will become! Plus, it shows the teacher that you are eager to learn, disciplined and determined to grow.

  4. No Cell Phones: As cell phones become a more prominent part of everyday life for all ages, they are never welcomed in the dance room. Make sure phones are set to silent and safely zipped up in your dance bag.

  5. Try Your Best: Always giving your 110% is the best policy! Be on your best behavior, focus and try your hardest. If you do that, you will be a respectful, A+ student with impeccable etiquette!
